Criticism can be better for us in the long run than compliments.

“When someone compliments you, what do you gain? Reassurance you’re doing something right,” says entrepreneur Dan Murray-Serter. “Compliments aren’t action-oriented – they don’t give you any guidance for what you could do better.”

Accurate criticism, on the other hand, is like “gold” as it shows you exactly what needs improvement, Murray-Serter says, adding that it’s important to take a step back, listen, evaluate and improve.

The only way to get better at something is by constantly improving.
